Progress Bar (Amsterdam)

Juha is the founder and resident DJ of Progress Bar. His way of mixing music is informed by his collaborations with artists operating on the intersection of visual arts, moving image and video games such as Metahaven, Michael Oswell and Sam Rolfes, resulting in vivid, visceral Ultra HD dance music.

For more than 10 years he has been performing across Europe alongside artists such as Hudson Mohawke, Bbymutha, Mykki Blanco, Nidia Minaj, Gonjasufi and countless more. He presents a monthly two-hour online show on Red Light Radio, Viral Radio, in which he explores new developments of internet music culture.

Since 2017, he is the course director of Shadow Channel, a new postgraduate programme film, design and propaganda at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam.

Progress Bar is a monthly club night in Amsterdam supporting radical club culture. Artists from across the world who have played here represent the extreme imaginary of dance music: from Le1f, Bambii and Nkisi, to Gaika, Lotic and Elysia Crampton.

Founded in Brighton (UK) in 2015, and currently in its third season in Amsterdam, Progress Bar is celebrated for its commitment to equality, inclusivity and political directness, combining talks, screenings and performances inside the club context. ‘It’s not an overstatement to say,’ as Crack Magazine wrote about Progress Bar S03E01, ‘that this format, characterised by a borderless melange of different voices, experiences and performances, is one that needs replicating across the clubbing scene.’

With this new proxy event at Plan B Festival in Kharkiv, Progress Bar adds a third node to its internet of club nights. Presenting its resident DJ and founder Juha, and Swedish DJ, producer and Janus member KABLAM, Progress Bar Kharkiv will bring two explosive sets of invigorating high-energy dance music from the undergrounds of the internet.
